MENOPAUSE

Hot flushes, brain fog, and everything menopause brings.

Menopause is diagnosed once you've gone 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period. Many of the symptoms associated with it actually begin earlier, during perimenopause, but whenever they arrive, you deserve a clear plan.

Temperature & Sleep

  • Hot flushes (sudden feelings of heat)

  • Night sweats

  • Sleep problems, including waking during the night

Mind & Mood

  • Mood changes: irritability, anxiety, or low mood

  • Brain fog, forgetfulness, or difficulty concentrating

Body & Energy

  • Joint and muscle aches

  • Fatigue or low energy

  • Dry skin, dry eyes, or changes in hair

  • Weight gain, particularly around the abdomen

Intimate & Urinary

  • Vaginal dryness, itching, or discomfort during sex

  • Lower sex drive

  • Urinary symptoms, such as urgency, leakage, or more frequent UTIs

Menopause symptoms can really effect your quality of life

IS IT AFFECTING YOU?

If symptoms are affecting your sleep, your work, or your day-to-day life, or if you notice symptoms before the age of 40 and would like a proper evaluation, that is reason enough to come in. You do not need to wait until symptoms feel unmanageable.

Contact us promptly if you notice:
  • Very heavy or prolonged bleeding

  • Bleeding after sex

  • Any bleeding after you've gone 12 months without a period

Your treatment options

  • Hormone replacement therapy (HRT), the most effective treatment for hot flushes and night sweats for many women

  • Non-hormonal medications for hot flushes or mood symptoms

  • Vaginal oestrogen or other treatments for dryness and urinary symptoms

  • Lifestyle measures: regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, limiting alcohol and caffeine if they trigger hot flushes, and keeping a cool sleeping environment

Right support you can feel better

Surgical menopause

Surgical menopause happens when both ovaries are removed (typically during a bilateral oophorectomy). Because hormone levels drop suddenly rather than gradually, symptoms often begin within days and can be more intense than natural menopause.

Common Symptoms Include:
  • Temperature & Sleep: hot flushes and night sweats (often severe); sleep problems related to night sweats.

  • Mind & Mood: mood changes, including irritability, anxiety, or low mood; brain fog, trouble concentrating, or memory lapses.

  • Body & Energy: fatigue; joint and muscle aches; headaches; dry skin, dry eyes, or hair changes.

  • Intimate & Urinary: vaginal dryness and discomfort during sex; reduced libido; urinary symptoms such as urgency, frequency, or recurrent UTIs.

Longer-term effects of losing oestrogen suddenly can include:
  • Bone loss (osteoporosis) and increased fracture risk

  • Higher risk of cardiovascular disease, particularly when menopause occurs earlier than the natural age

  • Changes in cholesterol and metabolism

When to seek advice:

if you've recently had surgery and are experiencing severe symptoms, or symptoms are affecting your quality of life, it's worth discussing options with us. Depending on your age, history, and reason for surgery, this may include HRT, non-hormonal medications, vaginal oestrogen or moisturisers, and lifestyle measures such as exercise, sleep habits, and a calcium- and vitamin D-rich diet. If your surgery was related to certain cancers, some treatments may not be suitable, and individualised advice matters here more than ever.
